Team Description: | The team is composed of 4 electronics engineers who have a passion for robotics, under the leadership of Stanislas GABROVSEK (Vetronics Engineer). The team is only supported by their members who are specialized in different areas (software, mechanics, electronics ands robotics). Our vehicle is called the “HMR-2” for “Home-Made Robot release 2”. The HMR-2 has been designed in order to show the level of performances which can be reached by using only technologies in the shops. The vehicle is actuated by electric motors that drive two rubber tracks. All processing takes place on one EPIA-VIA processor mini-ITX mainboard, powered by a battery-backed, electronically controlled power system. The vehicle incorporates measurements from GPS, and tracks speed for pose estimation. While moving, the environment is perceived through one day/night driving camera. During observation phases, a mast equipped with a pan and tilt controlled camera can be deployed. Images are compressed in real-time and the information are transmitted to command and control station through a Zigbee radio link (802.15.4). The development of the HMR-2 system began in September 2005. At the time of the initial team application, 80% of the electronics subsystems have been purchased and validated, and the mechanical chassis is under construction. |
